Physical Education (PE)

PE at West Green is about equipping our pupils with the skills and confidence they need to progress year on year, in the various sporting disciplines and attitudes we teach them. Our PE curriculum is inclusive of all learners' needs and ensures that pupils of all abilities access the range of activities we offer, and that they are physically active for sustained periods of time in order to encourage them to lead active lives.

Partnering with Chelsea FC Foundation means that teachers and specialist coaches work collaboratively to ensure that pupils build on skills they have been practising with their class teachers, and successfully apply these to game situations.

In addition, values such as sportsmanship, teamwork, ambition and resilience are hugely important for the pupils, and can be applied to all areas of the curriculum. This is taught to each year group before their PE lessons to encourage discussion and thought about what it means to be a sports person, and how these values can be applied to all areas of life.

Physical Education at West Green does not just encourage health and physical fitness, but also for pupils to build on their individual sporting abilities and talents and carry these with them into their futures beyond West Green.

We have been working hard to build in more opportunities for pupils to compete in inter-school events. Last year we were thrilled to take some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils to local football tournaments. We are looking forward to continuing to do so, by entering more exciting competitions in the future.
